James Lays Down His Sax!

Sax Player James Harris is moving on!

It is with much sadness that Shovelheads James Harris has decided to call it a day! Our highly talented Saxophone player has family commitments, which take priority and we all wholly support and respect his decision.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to James for being part of  Shovelhead’s and The Bail Jumpers family, (where he was affectionately known as “Dick Bone”!) for the last two years and it’s been great having him on board and we wish him well.
James will be replaced by Sean Davies (AKA Mr. Seamore Bush!) on second Guitar, who fans will know from The Bail Jumpers and will mean a change in style and sound for both Shovelhead and The Bail Jumpers, who now become a four-piece. Both bands will shortly be in extensive rehearsals and some major set changes means there’s a lot to look forward to in both line-ups. More info as we have it, right here and make sure to follow both bands facebook pages to stay right up to date.
Good Luck to James and welcome Sean.

Bass Guitarist Wanted As Bob “The Bass” Calls It A Day!

Big news for all Shovelhead fans… Bob “The Bass” is retiring at the end of this year. (2016)

Naturally the rest of the band are all very sad at this decision. However, we all wish him the very best and of course the show goes on and we are currently on the lookout for a replacement Bass guitarist.

Shovelhead are an Exeter/South Devon based Rock Blues band playing the four SW counties and performing some 60 plus gigs a year.
So, if you’re an experienced Bass guitar player, ideally also with a good singing voice, (a bonus would be someone who can also work a sound desk.) You must have your own transport to get to the gigs as well.

Please note: Shovelhead are a popular and happy band, so the right person will need to fit in and to do that, you’ll also need to be aware that we don’t have time for; Drunks, Egos, Attitude or Prima donnas!
Interested in trying out? Then in the first instance contact Mike Ellis directly via this email;  bluessinger69@aol.com

We look forward to hearing from you & we wish Bob all the very best in his retirement.

New Shovelhead Band Member announced!

New Shovelhead Band Member announced!

After the recent decision of our ol’buddy & Keyboard player Brad, to re-locate in Spain, we are pleased to announce our very latest band member James Harris.  James replaces Brads distinct keyboard style with The Saxophone, bringing a whole new dynamic to the Shovelhead sound.  James’ background is pretty impressive too, having  worked with Pee Wee Ellis, Scott Stroman, Jools Holland and ska band The Simmertones to name just a few.

He was a Young Jazz Musician Of The Year finalist two years running. James studied at Leeds College of Music, Dartington College of Art. At the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he was taught by American jazz tenor and saxophonist Jean Toussaint.

We offer him a warm welcome to the band & see our Gig page for where you can see him with the boys at a venue near you soon. Also, watch out for a new Photoshoot, featuring the brand new Saxy line-up, coming soon!

After consultations with Bug, we have decided to call it a day! We have had 6 great years playing from Cornwall, throughout Devon and right on up to Gloucester.

For too many years I have been doing too many gigs, so it’s time to throttle back a bit. I shall be concentrating on doing more festivals with the Shovelhead Big Blues Band and riding my bike more.

I’d like to finish by saying a huge thank you to all of you who came and cheered both of us on and enjoyed the shows.

Mr D Scratcher Esq.
